This is Shawn Siegel's final 2003
NBA Mock Draft, composed a full 3 days ahead of the actual NBA draft.
The final mock draft listed at site's like NBADraft.net are composed the
morning of the draft. This difference of time enabled other mock
drafts to be more precise this past season. For personal reasons,
Siegel was unable to update or write about the draft during this period.
5 of the players listed ended up going in the 2nd round, which compares to
the 4 2nd round misses on NBADraft.net's list from the actual morning of the
draft.
Notes from Siegel on his 2003 picks -
April 3rd 2004
In terms of the big misses. Lampe,
of course, was everyone's surprise drop due to contract issues.
Schortsanitis was also a 1st round pick according to almost every source at
the time. He is now playing in Italy. I took a chance with
Maurice Williams, who was not predicted to be a 1st rounder by most sources,
but based on his success with Utah this season, I still feel I made a good
choice there. By now, you've probably read about or watched Mario
Austin's struggles on TV. He recently signed with the Jackson Rage of
the new "World Basketball Association." Austin's stock dropped late in
the draft process, and was a player who would have dropped on my mock list
if I was able to update it closer to the draft. In terms of Rick
Rickert going late in the 1st round, that is probably the worst pick I'll
ever make. Took a chance there and it blew up in my face..
