justin_voccola@yahoo.com

NBA Draft Profile: John Gilchrist

College: Maryland

Class: Junior

Stats: ESPN Statistics

Height: 6-3

Weight: 201 lbs.

Accolades: 2003-2004: MVP of ACC Tournament

Scouting Report:

Tough physical point guard enables him to finish in traffic…. a big game player evidenced by his coming out party at the ACC Tournament last year… could provide better leadership… sometimes tries to do too much… will have to learn how to trust teammates at the next level

Strengths: Ruggedness, finishing, shooting

Weaknesses: Leadership, passing, foot speed

Projected Draft Range: Early 2nd Round

Player News: Read the latest national media articles on John Gilchrist

Siegel's Take - NBA Scouting Reports: Part 2

"Coming off a season in which he shot just 42% and averaged only 13.9 per game, Gilchrist probably didn't pick the best time to go pro.  Maryland was extremely disappointing last year, and Gilchrist was as big a culprit as anyone else.  Besides the obvious ball-handling skills, and shooting range, NBA GM's are looking for point guards who are natural winners and natural leaders, neither of which is Gilchrist's forte."
