Position: C
Height: 7”0”
Weight: 260lbs
Accolades:
Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year (high school) (03), Big East
Most Improved Player (06), All-Big East First Team (06).
Scouting Report:
A big, strong fundamentally sound big man who lacks NBA athleticism.
Strengths:
Big strong post
player. Great rebounder. Large frame allows him to block a fair share
of shots. Can score adequately down low. Played big minutes his junior
year in the highly competitive Big East.
Weaknesses:
Not athletic
enough for the NBA – not real quick or a high jumper. Has only played
one season of significant minutes in college. Doesn’t have range on his
jumper. Doesn’t have the foot speed to guard NBA players that would
face up on him.
Projected 2006 Draft
Range:
Late first round pick.
Consensus:
As the old
cliché goes, you can’t teach height – and Gray has plenty of that.
After only one above average season in college thus far, Gray’s game
still needs more work. His size should get him onto an NBA roster, but
his lack of NBA quickness and athleticism will limit his effectiveness.
