NBA Draft: Andrea Bargnani

Team: Benetton Treviso

Birth Year: 1985

Stats: Lega Basket Stats : Euroleague Stats

Position: PF

Height: 6’11”

Weight: 240lbs

Accolades: Italian Cadets National Team, Italian Junior National Team, Italian Under-20 National Team.

Scouting Report: A unique package of size and perimeter skills.

Strengths: Outside shooting – Bargnani has range well out past the 3 point arc and has the height and length to get his shot off over the defender.  Also is a terrific passer.  Plays well within a pick and roll offense.  Experienced – despite only being 20 years old, Bargnani has already been a pro player in Italy for 4 seasons, including the last 3 in Treviso who along with the Italian league also compete in the world’s second best league (behind the NBA) – the Euroleague.  Strong defender down low – adjusts shots due to his length and is a decent rebounder.  Can face the basket and take big men off the dribble.

Weaknesses: Will have to get stronger to play in the NBA – he isn’t skinny but could use some more muscle.  Must get adjusted to the North American game and culture.  Not used to playing against the rare size and skill that NBA big men possess.  Probably isn’t quick enough right now to cover NBA wing players.  Needs to get stronger in the post.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Top 5 pick.

Consensus:  Bargnani is a very skilled and experienced prospect.  While the Dirk Nowitzki comparisons probably aren’t fair right now, he does possess many of the same skills and the same great size.  Should be able to contribute to an NBA squad immediately and in a few years could become an all-star.
