Scouting Report:
A
double-double waiting to happen every time he steps on the floor. A
physical speciman who is considered too short to be an effective NBA
player.
Strengths:
Scoring and
rebounding. Smith has been a big time scorer and rebounder all 4 years
of his college career. He uses his chiseled physique and strength to
control the paint. He is also a good passer out of the double team and
can find cutting teammates when he is in the high post. He also is
extremely experienced, playing 4 years in big time conferences.
Weaknesses:
Height. At only 6’7” Smith is considered too small to play 4 in the
NBA. He is also too bulky and lacks a 3-point shot to play the 3.
Projected 2006 Draft Range: Early to late Second Round
Consensus:
Smith has
excelled in college as an undersized 4 man. NBA scouts aren’t giving
him much consideration as doing the same in the League. If he sheds a
few pounds and gains some quickness he has a shot. It is a shame since
he is such an effective post player on the college ranks.
