NBA Draft: Dee Brown

College: Illinois

Class: Senior

Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=10945

Position: PG/SG

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 185lbs

Accolades: Second Team All-Big 10 – coaches (media – Third Team) (03), Big 10 All-Freshman team (03), Second Team All-Big 10 (04), Big 10 All-Tournament Team (04), First Team All-American (05), Finalist for the Wooden Award (05), Big 10 Player of the Year (05), First Team All-Big 10 (05), Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year.

Scouting Report: A lightning quick guard who uses his foot speed on both ends of the court.  Can be an explosive, yet streaky, scorer.

Strengths: Quickness – usually is the quickest player on the floor.   Explosive scorer – can go off for 30 plus points.  Good coming off of and using screens.  Also racks up a lot of assists, boards (for his size) and steals.  Experienced – averaged 30 plus minutes all four years at Illinois.  Speed allows him to play great defense.

Weaknesses: Shot selection – can take questionable shots at times.  Isn’t a pure point guard – more of a combo guard.  Shoots for a very low percentage from the field and from behind the arc.  Very small – doesn’t have NBA guard size.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Late first round – early second round.

Consensus: The speed demon Brown seems to have helped his draft stock returning to Illinois for his senior year.  His size, questionable shot selection and point guard skills will hurt his draft position.  However, with his speed and scoring ability he will more than likely find himself on an NBA roster in the fall.
