NBA Draft: Guillermo Diaz

College: Miami

Class: Junior

Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=15434

Position: PG/SG

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 192lbs

Accolades: Big East All-Rookie Team (04), Second Team All-ACC (05).

Scouting Report:  An undersized yet explosive scoring 2 guard.  Can he play 1 on the pro level?

Strengths: Scoring.  Diaz has been a big time scorer all 3 years in the Big East & ACC.  Can create his shot on his own.  Good shooter from behind the arc and at the free throw line.  Excellent athlete – extremely quick and a great leaper.  Very strong build for a combo guard.

Weaknesses: Size.  Too small to play 2 in the NBA, but also hasn’t proven he is capable enough of running a team at the point – he is more comfortable on the wing.  His turnover numbers are almost equal to his number of assists.  Can be a streaky shooter – shot 0-10 vs. Louisville this season.

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Mid to late first round pick.

Consensus:  Diaz’s athleticism and scoring ability will probably make him a first round pick.  However if he can’t prove that he can at least fill in at the point guard spot in the NBA, his stay in the league won’t be as long as he hopes.
