Class: Sophomore
Stats:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=23015
Position: C
Height: 7”0”
Weight: 260bs
Accolades:
Missouri Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team (05), Missouri Valley
Conference All-Freshman Team (05), Missouri Valley Conference Defensive
Player of the Year (06).
Scouting Report:
A fundamentally sound but skinny post player.
Strengths:
Very
fundamentally sound – good, solid post moves; nice looking form on jump
shots; decent free throw shooter. Very long frame allows him to block
tons of shots. Very athletic for a big man – can get up and down the
floor. Good rebounder – had 19 and 16 board games this season.
Weaknesses:
Still not big or
strong enough to post up consistently in the NBA. Very inexperienced –
only played 2 years of college, and those were spent in a mid-major
conference. Was suspended by the NCAA at the starting of his sophomore
year for rules infractions.
Projected 2006 Draft
Range:
Late lottery – mid first round pick.
Consensus:
O’Bryant had a
breakout NCAA tourney and made himself a household name among NBA
scouts. His game definitely needs at least another year of college, but
considering he is a definite first round pick that probably isn’t going
to happen. In a few years time, assuming he can get stronger
physically, O’Bryant could be an above average center in the NBA –
possibly an all-star.
