NBA Draft Player Profile: Ben Gordon
by
Dale Money
Playing second fiddle to Emeka Okafor at UConn, 6'3 Ben Gordon out of
Mt. Vernon,
NY has a package of physical skills that intrigue most NBA scouts. He's
among the
best 3-point shooters in the nation and can attack the rim with his
strong upper body.
For the season the London, England born guard averaged 18.5 ppg,
4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. At the Pan American Games this summer Ben
Gordon represented the USA
as a member of the American squad, averaging 14.4
minutes, 5.6 points and 1.2 rebounds.
Gordon scored a team
high 12 points in the bronze medal game.
The 200 pound sophomore guard has played some pretty remarkable
basketball
this season, including a season high 37 points in a home win over
Nevada, followed by 27 points against Sacred Heart. He knocked
down a perfect 8 for 8 threes in those two games, and his three-point
field goal percentage of 41.6% is No. 2 all-time at UConn, behind only
Ray Allen. Last season, Gordon averaged 19.5 ppg, and as a freshman was
named to the Big East All-Rookie Team and was a member of the 2002 Big
East Championship All-Tournament team.
