Although he has only played point guard for
one full year, Wisconsin
junior Devin Harris' game is tailor
made for the NBA. After two years of
bouncing around as a shooting guard who could occasionally run the show,
he took complete control this season. Not just control of the
Badgers, but control of the Big Ten, earning Player of the Year honors.
Harris exhibited ideal leadership skills in leading his team to the Big
Ten tournament title and to the second round of the NCAA tournament. At
6’3” 185 pounds, he is the perfect size to become a successful NBA floor
general. He also has the perfect combination of court vision and scoring
prowess. At times he is adept at setting up shots for his teammates, but
can also be a go-to scorer at crucial points of a game.
He averaged 19.5 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.3
rebounds this past soon, stats that show he has an all-around unselfish
game. He also connected on 37.3 percent of his three-point attempts and
was no slouch on the defensive end either. His long arms, lateral
strength, and quickness enabled him to average 1.8 steals. His flaws are
only linked to needing more experience as a full-time point guard.
An All-American this
past season, the underclassmen still has to decide whether or not to jump
at the chance of being drafted in the lottery and the NBA riches that come
with it, or the glory of leading his team to a “Jameer Nelson & St.
Joes-like” senior season. As of right now he is projected to be selected
in the first 15 picks. CollegeHoopsNet has him going 11th on
their latest Mock Draft. A few other Mock
Drafts have him going higher. Pro Basketball Weekly has him going 5th,
while NBADraft.net has the star junior at the 6th spot.
