"Will Sebastian Telfair enter the
draft now that his stock is falling?"
Thanks for the email. Shortly
after you contacted me, the word leaked in various news reports that
Telfair is headed towards the draft, and that he is already discussing a
shoe deal with Adidas. My guess is the money from a potential shoe deal
will play strongly in his decision, because although the guaranteed pay of
going between 10-20 in the draft is somewhat enticing, the added millions
of a shoe deal really makes going pro for Telfair an even better option than for most other
high schoolers.
"What about Ricky Minard? What
are his chances of getting drafted?"
The key to Minard having a
shot at being drafted is an invite to the Chicago Camp. He had a
solid week at Portsmouth, which should force his way into the Chicago
Camp. My guess is that Minard wont end up being drafted, but he will
make a roster as a free agent in preseason because of his ability
to score and take the ball to the basket.
"In your opinion, do the
Sixers need frontline help more of back court help for AI when he
moves to point?"
My basic take on the Sixers
is that could use help at just about every position besides Iverson, so
they can go a number of ways. They could take another guard alongside Iverson
(the Eric Snow era needs to come to a close..), an athletic wing forward
who can run the floor and score, or a true center. I cant see them
going the route of a high schooler since they want to win now, so this
leaves Ben Gordon, Devin Harris, Andre Iguodala in the mix. I also
think a European is out of the question for the same reason as the HS
players.
"I will bet you a Pepsi that my
friend and hunting partner, Luke Jackson goes 20th or better."
I don't think I could take that bet
as he'll probably be just around there, 16-23 or so. Most of the college
players move up in the Mock Drafts as it gets closer to the draft because
some of the Euros decide to stay in Europe, and some of the HS players do as
well.
"Enjoyed your draft. David
Harrison, Marvin Williams(hs), Dorrell Wright and Tony Bobbitt are making
noise. You killed Josh Childress, but.... great job"
I admit, I am not a big Childress
fan. A lot of times, NBA GM's are moved by a player's name and reputation
as much as the fans are, so he might move up into the 13-16 pick range at
best, though I don't expect this. I am also not high on Marvin Williams or
Dorrell Wright, both of whom I have seen many times. Wright has no business
being in the top 25 picks of the draft, and will only get a look because of
his jumping ability. Williams is a more legit prospect, though one I feel
could become a guaranteed Top 10 Prospect with a year or two of school.
Keep sending in
your questions and I'll do my best to answer as many questions as possible.
