San Diego State Basketball

AZTECS COLLECT VERBALS

Basketball recruiting appears to be on a roll at Montezuma Mesa, home to the San Diego State Aztecs. A recent recruiting weekend proved fruitful as Kashif Watson stepped up with a verbal commitment. He was impressed enough to cancel his recruiting trip to Minnesota and commit to the Aztecs a few days after his visit.  Watson, younger brother of C.J. who plays the point for Tennessee, has good size (6-3/170) and may actually be better suited as a two guard.

Brett Hoerner also gave the Aztecs a verbal commitment. Hoerner, a 6-10, 190 lb forward/center from Fullerton High School was also offered by Washington and was given four stars by the TheInsiders.com.

With these two added to Kyle Spain’s previously announced verbal commitment, as well as a verbal from Jabbar Young who is going back to a JC for another year to fulfill his academic requirements, the Aztecs are putting together a potentially exciting group of talented players for the 2005-06 season.

And when you consider that current Aztecs Marcus Slaughter and Brandon Heath are just entering their sophomore year, they’ll be able to play with these recruits for a couple of years.

This many high-caliber recruits giving their verbal commitments before the official letter of intent signing date is a positive that San Diego State has not typically enjoyed in the past.
