AJ Price

College: Connecticut

Class: Senior

Position: PG

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 190lbs

Accolades: Second Team All-American - USBWA (08), Fourth Team All-American - CHN (08), First Team All-Big East (08).

Scouting Report: A solid point guard with a good long-range stroke.

Strengths: Good floor general. Experienced. Deadly three-point shooter. Clutch performer - not afraid to take the big shot. Can hit tough shots with defenders on him. Able to get by defenders and into the paint. Smart passer/playmaker. Takes good care of the ball - decent assist/turnover ratio.

Weaknesses: Much publicized off-court legal issues. Will be 23-years-old by the start of next season. Had health and injury concerns in college, including a fairly recent major knee injury. Not a stand-out/explosive athlete. Very inconsistent. Shoots for a horrible % from the floor. Poor shot selection.

Projected 2009 Draft Range: Early to mid second round pick.

Consensus: A.J. Price is never going to be a star in the NBA, but with his point guard skills and ability to knock down the long-range jumper, he could be a valuable bench player.

A J Price

I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment, but remember that Junior year was the only time that Price was able to compete with his full set of tools, and he was very impressive. The other factor to look at in Price's career is that UConn was never a very good offensive team. His ability to pick his spots became limited because the defense didn't have to worry too much about Thabeet. He might be very good on a good team, like Orlando. Calhoun builds good guards -- he could end up a three or a four by your system.
