Saturday's Conference Tournament Primer

In other action on Tuesday night both Connecticut and Xavier fell on the road, and it's now beyond danger time for both teams.

Iowa and TCU join the fray, while Wyoming gets edged out in the latest 2012 NIT field. The field below is not who I think deserves to be in, but simply a prediction of what the committee would do as things stand today.

Despite falling to 10th in the AP poll, Ohio St remains strong in the Consensus Ranking (CR). The computers were nonplussed by the Buckeyes loss to Wisconsin. Similarly, Missouri only fell two spots despite a pair of losses. The biggest losers this week were actually La Salle, West Virginia, and Marshall.

 

We're getting down to the nitty gritty. Some leagues have already wrapped up their schedules, while others have a couple of games left. Here's a breakdown of this week's Top 10 games as it relates to NCAA Tournament Bracketology and the Bubble:  
 

#14 Southern Miss (21-6, 10-4, CUSA)

#26 Colorado St (16-10, 6-6, MWC)

#30 UCONN (17-11, 7-9, Big East)

#35 Saint Louis (21-6, 10-4, A10)

#43 Northwestern (17-11, 7-9, Big Ten)

#4 Kansas clinched their eighth consecutive Big 12 title with a wild 87-86 overtime win over #3 Missouri, placing head coach Bill Self in some esteemed company. Here are today's "Quick Hitters": 

Although the conference table was mostly set back in January when we last updated the Consensus Conference Ranking, there have been some changes since. As you'll see below, the Mountain West dropped from 4th to 6th since January 3rd, while the Colonial and Ivy have jumped 2 spots.

In the big game of the night #18 Notre Dame continued their run with a 71-44 beating of West Virginia in South Bend.
