Score two wins for the Colonial Athletic Association, with VCU winning at Wichita State and Drexel defending their home floor with a win over Kent State in Friday's Sears BracketBusters contests. VCU needed a pair of Joey Rodriguez free throws with eight tenths of a second remaining to win a game they nearly handed over after leading by nine at the half. Rodriguez racked up 11 assists to go along with 15 points. Bradford Burgess scored 17 to lead the Rams, and Joe Ragland scored 15 to lead the Shockers.

Before the start of action on Saturday few had any idea that the day would end up being as wild as it was. Seven ranked teams fell to unranked opponents on a day that will have a drastic impact on Monday's polls, providing a reminder that the madness doesn't always wait until March to get going. While you never want to say that a game is a "must-win", make no mistake about the importance of North Carolina getting a win over Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. While Roy Williams' team had wins over UNC Asheville and College of Charleston before losing at Illinois, UNC's play will be measured by its performance in the games against elite competition.

In the latest installment in his "Forgotten Legends" interview series, CHN writer Jon Teitel spent some time with Austin Peay great Charles "Bubba" Wells. Wells, who remains the all-time leading scorer in APSU history, led the Governors to the 1996 NCAA Tournament and played in various professional leagues after graduating in 1997. Wells' wife, Tracee, is currently the head coach of the women's basketball program at Tennessee State.

In the most recent installment in his coaching greats interview series, CHN writer Jon Teitel spent some time with former Murray State and South Carolina head coach Steve Newton. Newton's accomplishments include four conference titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances in six seasons at Murray before moving on to transition the Gamecocks into the SEC from the Metro Conference. Now retired from coaching, Newton is running a social marketing business with his wife.

In one of the wildest opening days in the history of the NCAA Tournament it took a lot to shock the college basketball world. And 97 points may qualify as "a lot", as in the number of points the MAC champion Ohio Bobcats scored in their 97-83 win over third-seeded Georgetown in a Midwest Region first round game in Providence. One-time Indiana Hoosier Armon Bassett scored 32 points while point guard D.J. Cooper added 23 points and eight assists in a dominant performance for John Groce's squad.
