2007 Collegehoops.net All-Final Four Team

April 4th, 2007

Best Performance: Corey Brewer, Florida

Pick your tired, beaten-to-death cliché: Defense wins championships. There’s no “I” in team. The only stat that matters is the score. He rises to the occasion. All apply to Corey Brewer, who deservingly took home the Most Outstanding Player award and a piece of college basketball history Monday night.

Billy Donovan: Securing His Place in History

April 3rd, 2007

As a player, Billy Donovan will always be remembered as the pudgy point guard who willed his Providence team to the Final Four.

As a coach in 2000, Donovan earned the right to be remembered for going one step further than he did as a player.

And now, he will be remembered as being one of the greatest college coaches of all-time.

Donovan now has more rings than Lute Olson, Jim Boeheim, Tom Izzo, and even his mentor, Rick Pitino.

NCAA: Championship Game: Quick Recap

April 2nd, 2007

Florida 84, Ohio State 75
My three keys going into the game:

1. Can Greg Oden avoid foul trouble?

What happened? Oden pretty much single-handedly kept the Buckeyes in the game when it seemed like each second half three hit by the Gators would break this game wide open. Oden went for 25 and 12 on this night, playing thirty-eight of the forty minutes. Foul trouble was more of an issue for classmate Mike Conley Jr., who sat out a large portion of the first half due to two fouls.

2. Will Taurean Green play better than he did on Saturday night?

Final Four GameLog: Vitriol, Chest Pounding, and Ferris Bueller

April 1st, 2007

The best thing about the NCAA Tournament is no matter what happens, the Final Four always has an air of excitement. There are always BCS Championships, World Series and NBA Finals that no one seems to care about (i.e. last season’s World Series, the 2002 and 2003 NBA Finals, every college football game ever played besides 2005’s USC-Texas). But the Super Bowl and Final Four always draw attention (whether it be for gambling purposes or not) and this year is no different. We have last year’s champ and runner-up, the No.

Final Four Breakdown: One for the Ages

And then there were four.

There were 61 other teams who swear they could’ve, should’ve, or would’ve been playing for one more weekend, yet there are plenty of reasons why this particular foursome remains.

North Carolina collapsed. Kansas faltered. Memphis didn’t defend. And Oregon ran out of bullets. They are no longer at the party. For those Elite Eight teams, the dance is over.

But this isn’t about the dearly departed, this is about four schools who are deserving of dancing past midnight.

Daily Dribble: 3/28

March 28th, 2007
Duke

- NIT semifinals last night.. a pair of close 1-point games. Clemson will face West Virginia in the finals and hope to get one back for the ACC after Georgetown upset UNC. KC Rivers had 19 points for the Tigers..coming off a season-best 29 in the quarterfinals win over Syracuse. Rivers should emerge as a national star next season.

Best Performance: Tajuan Porter, Oregon

Make all the short jokes you want. Call him things like “diminutive” or “pint-sized” and write stories implying his 5 foot 6 inch, 160 pound (if that) frame is somehow a huge disadvantage.

Just don’t say it to UNLV.
