AUSTIN, Texas -- On Wednesday, ESPN announced the eight sites for ESPN's weekly "College GameDay Driven by State Farm" men's college basketball series and the "Saturday Primetime" game-of-the-week telecast.

(San Francisco) - Rashad Green, a 6-4, 195 pound wing from Babylon, New York has signed a scholarship agreement to play basketball at the University of San Francisco, as announced today by head coach Rex Walters. Under NCAA transfer rules, Green will sit out the entire 2008-09 season after completing a successful freshman season at Manhattan in 2007-08.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Dan Dickau has signed with Euroleague team Avellino, the club announced Tuesday.

Dickau, 29, averaged 5.3 points and 2.6 assists in 67 games with the Clippers last season, his sixth in the NBA. In 300 career games with Atlanta, Portland, Dallas, New Orleans and Boston, he has posted averages of 5.8 points and 2.5 assists.

His best season came in 2004-05 with New Orleans, when he played in 67 games -- 46 starts -- and averaged 13.2 points with 5.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.

In recent weeks, the Rise & Fall series has chronicled the progress (or regress) of college basketball's major conference teams. But if I equated each team to a civilization, I was mistaken. It is really the NCAA conference that equates to a burgeoning civilization or nation, each with its sometimes stable and sometimes rotating member states. Like civilizations, the prestige and power of conferences wax and wane..

 

Los Angeles, CA - Loyola Marymount Head Coach Bill Bayno, on the job since April, has had a busy four months as he puts together his first roster at the helm of the Lions. The roster looks to be finished as three more high school standouts - Jarred DuBois (G, 6-3, Westchester HS - Los Angeles, CA),  Romaric Lasme (F, 6-7, Winchendon School - Winchendon, MA), and Kevin Young (F, 6-8, Perris HS - Perris, CA) ? have committed and formally accepted written scholarship offers to attend LMU this fall.

People have been emailing me this week asking how I came up with the groupings for the Conference Rise & Fall articles. While the groupings I used were based on a mix of intuition and stats, here are the actual conference RPI's over the last decade. Notice the clean split between certain league divisions.. for example, the BCS leagues and non-BCS leagues. The difference in avg RPI between the best and worst BCS leagues (ACC & Pac-10) is 2.7, which is almost as big as the gap between the Pac-10 and the closest non-BCS league.
