A Night in Heaven (Malibu): Gonzaga at Pepperdine

One of the perks of covering college basketball is being able to sit up close to the action, watching great teams play for free. The downside is that in the case of a blowout, you’re obligated not to leave.

Thus I was forced to endure all 40 minutes of Gonzaga’s 92-57 beat down of Pepperdine. This game was featured on the debut of ESPN’s Big Monday, but I’m sure the powers at be at ESPN would rather have aired Sports Center reruns instead.

Mid-Season All-America Teams

Although the college basketball season is only a couple of months old, the start of the new year is a great time to reflect on which stars shined the brightest in 2007. Many of the names below are familiar to even a casual fan, while a few of the names are only known to the sport's most passionate followers. There may not be an Oden or Durant among the group, but there could be a couple of lottery picks in the years ahead, and several who will make an NBA roster. I present to you the best of 2007 (by position):

HIGH-MAJOR

Daily Dribble: Top 50 Mid-Major Ranking

ButlerRolling in the New Year with the first of three multi-conference rankings. Today will be the Top 50 Mid-Major teams, followed by the a complete "High-Major" ranking (conference 7 through 12), and then an overall BCS ranking. As a reminder, I consider the A10, CAA, CUSA, MVC, MWC, WAC to be "High-Major" conferences.
