OU Men's Hoops Team Closes Tour with 90-61 Victory
NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. - The Oklahoma men's basketball team didn't seem fazed by the fact it was playing its fourth game in 38 hours when it visited Douglas College Monday morning. The Sooners stormed to a 27-6 lead through the first 10 minutes of play and wrapped up a 4-0 exhibition tour of Canada with a 90-61 win.
OMAHA, NE - Point guard Isacc Miles has been granted his release to
transfer from Creighton. The Kansas City, Mo., native averaged 6.1 points per game last season along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Miles was a member of the MVC's All-Freshman team and projected to be an important contributor for the Bluejays. Coming out of high school, Miles was a highly sought after recruit who garnered interest from many top BCS programs.
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men¹s basketball team has signed a pair of junior college guards, Cavel Witter and Booker Woodfox, who will join the program next fall.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Dana Altman, the all-time winningest coach in Creighton basketball history, has accepted the head men¹s basketball coaching job at the University of Arkansas. Altman was introduced at a 5 pm press conference in Fayetteville, Ark., today at Bud Walton Arena.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Longtime Creighton men's basketball assistant coach Kevin McKenna has been hired as the head men's basketball coach at Indiana State University. McKenna, who is in the CU Athletics Hall of Fame for his play from 1977-81, returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach from 1994-2001 and then again from 2005-07.
McKenna replaces Royce Waltman, who did not have his contract renewed after this month¹s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
Am I the only person watching the Drexel/Creighton game tonight that was confused about the emphasis on "bench decorum"? Each head coach, Bruiser Flint of Drexel and Dana Altman of Creighton, was T'd up in this BracketBusters game that the visiting Dragons eventually won 64-58. Altman's technical, in which he was called for being about six inches outside of the coaches box, brought back memories of Dean Smith getting a T for the same offense in the 1991 Final Four. Coach Altman said nothing to the official to warrant this call, just happened to do something that coaches throughout the nation have been doing for years. Drexel went on a run after this, and things seemed to be going well for the Dragons until Coach Flint found himself on the wrong side of the whistle when yelling at his player for a foolish reach-in foul. Jumping into the air and yelling at his guy wouldn't have been a problem (nor should it be) had an official not been right next ot Flint. Luckily for Drexel, they were able to hold on despite some horrific foul shooting (at one point they had missed five straight from the charity stripe).
SIU and Creighton tied atop conference with a 10-3 record.
