West Region Final Thoughts: What's in Store for 2011-12?
The final region is the West, which is where Connecticut began their run to the national title. While some of the departures in this region will steal the majority of the ink there are a number of teams who should feel good about their prospects in 2011-12. "Big Dance" Interviews: Oakland head coach Greg Kampe
As part of his "Big Dance" interview series CHN writer Jon Teitel spent some time with Oakland head coach Greg Kampe as his Golden Grizzlies will make their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Coach Kampe's Golden Grizzlies dominated the Summit League, losing just one of their 18 league games to go along with a solid showing in their non-conference slate. Oakland drew a 13-seed with Texas being their first round matchup this week.
"Big Dance" Interviews: Oakland center Keith Benson
As part of his "Big Dance" interview series CHN writer Jon Teitel spent some time with Oakland senior center Keith Benson, who helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Oakland drew Texas in the first round, which should provide a nice challenge for all involved given the NBA-level big men that will be on display (Benson and Texas' Tristan Thompson). Jon Teitel: Your father Keith Sr. and uncle Hilton both played basketball in college, and your uncle Manny played 6 years in the ABA and NBA.
College Hoops Tuesday Recap: Three More Tickets Punched
Three more tickets were punched on Tuesday night with one being snagged by Greg Kampe's Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a 90-76 win over Oral Roberts in the Summit League title game. Regular season and tournament MVP Keith Benson went off for 28 points, 14 rebounds and four assists and Reggie Hamilton added 26 points and six assists as Oakland completed an impressive run through the conference that included just one loss (IUPUI).
College Hoops Thursday Recap: Just Two for the Atlantic 10?
Before Thursday night's game between Richmond and Temple the Atlantic 10 may have been in some trouble with regards to getting three teams into the NCAA Tournament. Both the Owls and Xavier are seen to essentially be locks to get into the NCAA Tournament, and after Thursday night they may be the only two teams that get in come Selection Sunday.
Jon Teitel's "Forgotten Legends" Series: Centenary Great Willie Jackson
In the latest installment in his "Forgotten Legends" interview series CHN writer Jon Teitel spent some time with Centenary great Willie Jackson, the school's all-time leading scorer while also ranking second in rebounding. Aptly nicknamed "The Legend" by players when an assistant at his alma mater, Jackson is now the head coach at Loyola College Prep in Shreveport, Louisiana.
