DAYTON – Valparaiso made a statement in their first game in the Horizon League; that they were ready to compete in a new, tougher conference, as the pulled out a road win against Wright State 71-66 where the visiting teams rarely win.

Wright State on the other hand made two costly turnovers in the last 74 seconds of the game to lose the lead and let an important league game get away.

With a 66-63 lead and a 1:14 left in the game Wright State’s Vaughn Duggins threw an errant pass to Will Graham that got away and went into the backcourt for a turnover.

Dayton –- If you wanted rhythm tonight you had to go to a jazz club, because with 50 fouls called on Wright State and Marshall leading to 64 free throws, the teams could not get into any kind of rhythm or flow in this game.

In between standing around and watching foul shots Wright State managed to pull out a win 77-70 against a pesky Marshall team in this free throw shooting contest.

It would have been virtually impossible for Brad Brownell to do a better job in his first year at Wright State.  After a successful stint at UNCW, Brownell moved west to Dayton and led the Raiders to a 23-10 record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.  Coach Brownell talks about the upcoming season with Collegehoops.net, and how he'll deal with the loss of star DaShaun Wood:
