Evan Turner vs John Wall: Player of the Year Debate

Evan TurnerLast year, the debate for the 2008-09 Naismith National Player of the Year was effectively ended sometime in mid-January 9 (or maybe even sooner), when it became clear that Oklahoma's Blake Griffin was far and away the best player in the country. He was a double-double machine who became a nightly fixture on “Sportscenter's Top 10” for his rim-rattling dunks, and he led the Sooners to a 30-6 record and the Elite Eight. Although they would fall short of a championship, there was no question that he was the most dominant player in the nation.

High-Major is comprised of the A-10, CUSA, MVC, MWC, WAC, and WCC. The six leagues historically the best after the BCS leagues.

AP All-America Team: Griffin Unanimous

The Story: Blake Griffin, the leading rebounder in the nation, was the only unanimous selection for the All-American team. Griffin received 71 first-team votes. The voters submit the ballots before the NCAA tournament. The Sooners were bounced from the tournament yesterday by North Carolina, led by fellow All-American Tyler Hansbrough. Hansbrough was a unanimous selection last year while also being named the consensus player of the year as a junior. This is the fourth straight season that he has earned All-American honors.

Naismith Award: 30 Finalists Announced

ATLANTA (Feb. 24, 2009) - No college program has ever won a Heisman Trophy and a Naismith Trophy in the same academic year, but Blake Griffin is looking to put Oklahoma in uncharted territory.

Wooden Award: Midseason Top 30

Midway through the 2009 college basketball season, the top 30 candidates for the John R. Wooden Award, the nation's most coveted college basketball honor, were named today by The Los Angeles Athletic Club's John R. Wooden Award Committee. Composed of the players who will compete for this season's player of the year award, the midseason list is based on individual player performance and team records during the first half of the season.
