NCAA Rules on OJ Mayo Situation
USC had asked for an interpretation from the NCAA on whether it was a violation for O.J. Mayo to receive tickets to an NBA game from Carmelo Anthony, an individual with whom he had a pre-existing relationship. USC received an answer from the NCAA earlier today. The NCAA ruled it a violation, therefore at that time USC declared him ineligible and petitioned for his reinstatement. As a condition of his reinstatement, the NCAA said that he had to make a charitable contribution of $460 based on the value of the tickets.

Brook Lopez Ineligible for Fall Semester
Stanford received a blow on Friday when Brook Lopez was ruled ineligible for the first semester. Lopez, a Collegehoops.net Preseason All-American, could possibly return for a December 19th game against Santa Clara if he gets everything in order promptly.
Lopez missed the season's first five games last year due to injury, so this is a position that Stanford is used to. In his absence, the Cardinal will simply have to rely more on his brother Robin.
Getting the Bug and Stephon Marbury
There's a new thread on the message board entitled "Starting to Get the Bug." I wish I had that same feeling. Right now, the college basketball season seems more like a distant buzzing in my periphery.
I was hoping the FIBA Americas tournament would get me back into basketball mode. But then I forgot how good Team USA can be when Kobe and J-Kidd play, while squads like Argentina don't bring their top dogs.
Instead, speaking of dogs, the only bug I have is an urge to throw up every time I hear the name Michael Vick.
