What goes through the mind of a player who's in "the zone"? CHN writer Jon Teitel had the opportunity to find out, talking to Montana star guard Anthony Johnson about his performance against Weber State among a variety of topics in advance of the Grizzlies' first round matchup with New Mexico.
CHN writer Jon Teitel recently spent some time talking with one of the most improved players in the Big East, Notre Dame forward Tim Abromaitis. Abromaitis and the rest of the Fighting Irish will take on Old Dominion on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Jon Teitel: Your older brother Jason played at Yale. What did he teach you about the sport, and who is the better player?
Tim Abromaitis: Since he is older, he was always beating me in 1-on-1. He taught me how to be competitive and have a good work ethic.
Next up in Jon Teitel's interview series is Lehigh point guard Marquis Hall, the man whose responsibility is to get the ball to stars C.J. McCollum and Zahir Carrington. First up for the Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks: none other than top-ranked Kansas.
Ron Cox holds the rare distinction of being his school's all-time leader in points & rebounds. By the time Cox was finished at Eastern Washington University, he was a 1st team, 3rd team, and honorable mention All-American. The Eagles legend was kind enough to answer some questions for CHN's Jon Teitel:
What goes into a 40-point performance? A hot hand, superstitions and a good matchup are just three of the things that have been cited in the past. That accomplishment actually occured twice this past weekend, with Washington State's Klay Thompson and Mercer's James Florence doing the honors. While many already know about Thompson the Mercer senior guard from Marietta, GA hasn't received that kind of attention. Florence returned to school as the nation's leading senior returning scorer and is currently averaging 22.8 points and 4.2 assists per game.
George Starke was a true two-sport star. A center on one of Columbia's better basketball teams, Starke also played in football in college, and went on to have a solid 12-year NFL career. CHN's Jon Teitel chats with Starke about his days in the Ivy League and beyond.
