Blake Griffin - Oklahoma

Blake Griffin - Oklahoma

Blake Griffin

College: Oklahoma

Class: Sophomore

Position: PF

Height: 6’10”

Weight: 251 lbs

Accolades: First Team All-Big 12 (08), Big 12 All-Freshman Team (08), Second Team All-Freshman – CHN (08), McDonald’s All-American – high school (07), Third Team Parade All-American – high school (07).

Scouting Report: A big, strong athletic post player with plenty of upside.

Strengths: Perfect NBA power forward size. Great low post player. Big and strong. Has good hands. Very athletic for his size – won the Powerade Jam Fest at the McDonald’s All-American game in high school. Great spin moves in the post. Scrappy – battles for boards. Able to get out and run the floor. Capable of grabbing a rebound and starting a fast break on his own with the dribble. Great leaping ability – 37 inch vertical. Excellent passer for a big man.

Weaknesses: Had injuries to both his knees during his freshman collegiate season. Poor free throw shooter - sometimes gets pulled out of late game situations due to it. Doesn’t block many shots. Turns the ball over too much - more turnovers than assists for his collegiate career.

Projected 2009 Draft Range: Top three pick.

Consensus: After a great freshman season, and an even better sophomore one, Blake Griffin has positioned himself to be on of the first names called in June‘s draft. While he is still young and his game still needs work, his combo of size, strength, speed, athleticism, jumping ability and nastiness should make him a great NBA player.

I hope this kid lands with

I hope this kid lands with the thunders. He deserves to be reunited with his loyal oklahoma fans. Give the city and Blake Griffin what they really want. Imagine Kevin Durant,Russell Westbrook,Jeff Green, Nick Collison, and BLAKE GRIFFIN. Not only is the team legit but its young. A fastbreak run and gun kinda offense, there is no way blake is the right fit for OKLAHOMA SOONERS.... I mean OKLAHOMA THUNDERS!!!

Stud!!!!!

He is the real deal. Barring injury, this kid is a manchild. Better in college than Beasley, who can score, but always lacked desire and drive. If Blake continues to work on his game, and puts in the hard work he did in college - sky is the limit. Blake is a rebounding machine, and a solid scorer. He will still demand a double team at the 3 or 4. He can face the basket and play with his back to the rim. He has an explosive first step, good ball handling for a big. He is a solid player. Should have immediate impact and be an all star. Good piece to build around. But will not stay with the Clips once his contract is up. They should trade this pick now while they can get something for him before he leaves like Elton Brand did.

Just overvalued! I can't

Just overvalued!

I can't agree in many common places about Griffin.

"Great low post player" - FALSE. I think we should redefine the word "Great". Griffin was a "great NCAA low post player". For the NBA, he needs something else.

"Has good hands" - FALSE. He has good hands COMPARED WITH OTHER NCAA BIG MEN. I've seen at least 20 european big players with Griffin's age playing with better hands, and no one of them will play in the NBA.

"Great spin moves in the post" - FALSE. "Great" again? I must repeat that Griffin was a "great NCAA low post player". N-C-A-A is not NBA.

"Excellent passer for a big man" - UNCORRECT. There are a lot of big men with great passing skills, and Griffin isn't one of them. The correct phrase could be "He made a lot of passes in the NCAA", with weak defenses and being the main reference in Oklahoma.

He isn't a "younger Carlos Boozer". He will be a worst Leon Powe.
