Ten Games for Week 5

September 27th, 2007

Well, Week 5 is upon us, and the last weekend of September usually offers fans a mix of conference games and final jaunts outside of league play. Questions for this week include whether or not Louisvilles defense can turn thinga around, who's ready to compete with USC atop the Pac-10, and just how good is 4-0 Michigan State. Here are ten games to keep track of this weekend, along with an honorable mention choice for each league. And if you haven't read it by now, I urge you to read Chad Nielsen's story on Colt Brennan in ESPN The Magazine (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3038443).

Week 4 Recap

September 24th, 2007

Well, another week is in the books, and some interesting things took place on Saturday. First off, June Jones held Colt Brennan out of Hawaii's game against Charleston Southern for precautionary reasons. The 66-10 win would have been a good opportunity for the Heisman candidate to pad his stats, but it's probably wise to make sure he's healthy for the balance of WAC play. Tyler Graunke (22-26 for 285 yards and 3 scores) performed well in his absence, and C.J Hawthorne had two touchdown receptions.

Quick Saturday update

September 22nd, 2007

First off, a little clarification from what was written in my last entry. Arkansas RB Darren McFadden missed much of the fourth quarter last week due to a concussion, not cramping as I stated here. I apologize for the confusion. Now, two injury reports for games today:

- UCLA QB Ben Olson is not expected to play today due to headaches he's experienced throughout the week. Patrick Cowan will get the start in the Rose Bowl against Washington.

Week 3 Recap

September 16th, 2007

So, week three of the college football season is now in the books, and we learned two important things about who's got the best shot to win it all. One, USC is indeed the real deal. Tough to tell when you've only played one game, and it was against Idaho. Going into Lincoln and winning the way that they did should quiet some of the talk that the Trojans shouldn't be ranked number one right now. Secondly, you can add Florida's name to that of USC, LSU and Oklahoma at the top of that "contenders" list. It's not a shock that the Gators won at home over Tennessee. But 59-20?

Well, by now you know that two-time Championship Subdivision champ Appalachian State went into Michigan and left with a 34-32 win, closing it out with a blocked field goal with six seconds remaining. How does this happen?

My "bug", and other college football items

August 30th, 2007

There's been some talk on this site about "the bug"...the feeling that college basketball is just around the corner. Well, even though I love college hoops (if I didn't then why am I here?), I'd like to get this fact off of my chest:

College football, you are my crutch.
