Final Four 2010

Final Four 2010

The Bracketology field is based on how the tourney looks "as of today." The field below is not based on who I think deserves to be in, but a prediction of what the committee would do as things stand. The next Bracketology update will be on Saturday. Look below for commentary on today's changes.

Why should you care what I have to say? In 2007 & 2008,  I was considered to have one of the Top 2 or 3 brackets amongst 53 national experts including Joe Lunardi, Gary Parrish and the like. (Admittedly my 2009 final bracket was rather weak.. not sure what happened. Can't win 'em all.)

Notes:

Arrows ( ) indicate movement by seed. Green font indicates new to the field this week. Conference champions are not my end of season predictions, but current leaders. Ties atop conference standings go to the higher RPI team. Check-mark () indicates automatic bid.

THOUGHTS

-- Ole Miss, Florida, and Virginia Tech somehow remain in the field despite losing. I'm convinced Rhode Island, Minnesota, and Mississippi St will need one more win to surpass those teams. Even a strong showing (ie, OT or down to the wire) may be enough to push these schools over Ole Miss.. remember, the committee is watching. At this point, URI, Minnesota, and MSU are pretty much the lone bubble teams trying to get in.

-- So far, there hasn't been a conference champion that's stolen a bid out of the blue. Houston (CUSA over UTEP), New Mexico St (WAC over Utah St), Miami and NC State are all trying to be major spoilers. In the case of Utah St, remember that the committee once snubbed the Aggies after they went 25-2 and were in the Top 25 (so perhaps if they lost, they wouldn't necessarily be an at-large team.)

-- San Diego St jumps 3 seeds after their win over New Mexico. Their RPI jumps up to 24th.

-- Because UNM lost, they drop to a 3 seed and are replaced by Kansas St (who beat Baylor). Also, Tennessee moves up to a 4 in place of Maryland.

-- Washington & Illinois appear to be safe even if they lose their conference tourney games tomorrow.

Enjoy the hoops on Saturday!

Also guys, see how my picks

Also guys, see how my picks compare to a dozen other national experts like Gary Parrish, Gregg Doyel, etc on CBS's Selection Sunday Challenge. It's a fun game:

How is it that Utah State

How is it that Utah State wins by thirty on Friday and gets downgraded?????

USU did nothing wrong, but

USU did nothing wrong, but SDSU's win vaulted them 8 spots head of USU in the RPI and gave SDSU 3 Top 50 wins to USU's 2. SDSU also has a better strength of schedule.
