Bracketology: January 26th

This is the week marks the tipping point when the weekly Bracketology slowly begins to morph into a Daily Field of 65. Expect updates every 2-3 days for the next 2 weeks before the daily updates begin. The Bracketology field is based on how the tourney looks "as of this moment." Arrows indicate a team that moved up or down based on last week's performance. (Just because a team won or lost doesn't necessarily mean they'll move substantially though.)

Why should you care what I have to say? Did you know, last year I was considered to have one of the Top 2 or 3 brackets (depending on the scoring rubric) amongst 53 national experts including Joe Lunardi, Gary Parrish and the like).

Movement:

Arrows indicate movement by seed. Two arrows equals a change of two seeds, etc..

Butler's record

Can sommeone with an ESPN profile comment on Bracketology? They have Butler as being 17-1 (8-0) instead of 18-1 (9-0)...as well as a six seed, which is comical.

Honestly, I have no idea why I even check what those so called experts have to say, it usually just irritates me.

You're right Joe Lunari, they play in the Horizon League. Judging by what you have as their record that's about the only thing you know about them, jackass!

As I mentioned in the

As I mentioned in the similar post in the Butler UGroup, Lunardi would justify this by saying he's trying to mimic the committee, and the committee is biased against mid-major leagues. but agreed 6th is completely ridiculous for Butler as besides the gaudy ranking, they're 8th in the RPI right now. Unfortunately that will go down as the season goes on and Butler plays Detroit, Valpo, etc again

My problem with Butler is

My problem with Butler is the same I have with Utah in football. They are good enough to beat a good team occasionally, but could they win consistently vs. top competetion? They have a good win at Xavier,ok wins at home against Northwestern(2-5 in Big Ten) by 4 and UAB by 4 (3-2 in Conf. USA). I am not sure how their RPI is 8. I think they would be lucky to be .500 against your 4-6 seeds.
Keep up the good work-I think your site is the best on the web!!!

but does anyone outside of

but does anyone outside of the top 3-4 teams in the country win consistently against top competition? Sure, if Butler was in the Big East and played ND's schedule they'd have 3-4 losses easy now, but then again so would Oklahoma, Clemson, etc..

thanks for the kind words about the site!

Error Note!

By mistake, Miami was omitted from the originally posted Bracketology on the 26th. They've been re-included in their rightful place, which knocks Illinois St into the first out pile. Apologies to any disgruntled Miami fans!

Temple

If Temple wins their next 3 against URI, Richmond, and Xavier are they in?

Shawn Siegel's picture

interesting scenario.. hard

interesting scenario.. hard to say as it would depend on what other's do. If I'm a Temple fan, I'd just hope the team doesnt worry about Xavier and focuses on the upcoming URI game. They haven't been able to win a road game against a quality team like URI yet

Xavier

Well there goes the Temple scenario. But anyways what does Xavier have to do to hold onto their 3 seed or even get a 2 seed and get to go to Dayton so i can watch the game?
