Final Four 2010

The Bracketology field is based on how the tourney looks "as of this moment." The field below is not based on who I think deserves to be in, but a prediction of what the committee would do as things stand. For the next few weeks, I'll be posting Bracketology updates every Tuesday & Friday.  In late February, I release Bracketology updates daily as the season enters crunch time.

Why should you care what I have to say? In 2007 & 2008,  I was considered to have one of the Top 2 or 3 brackets amongst 53 national experts including Joe Lunardi, Gary Parrish and the like. (Admittedly my 2009 final bracket was rather weak.. not sure what happened. Can't win 'em all.)

Notes:

Arrows indicate movement by seed. Green indicates new to the field this week. Conference champions are not my end of season predictions, but current leaders. (Ties atop conference standings go to the higher RPI team).

Thoughts

-- Wichita St falls out of the field after a weak road loss at Evansville. For Evansville, it was their first league win of the season. The Shockers are replaced by Dayton, who are up to 32nd in the RPI.

-- Soaring Illinois moves up 3 more seeds, as does Richmond. Richmond, up to 26th in the RPI, has won 5 straight including a big road win at Rhode Island. The Spiders have 3 easy games before a rough finish against Xavier, Dayton, and Charlotte.

-- Louisville barely hangs in after a bad loss to St. John's. Louisville gets the nod over fellow Big Easters Marquette and Notre Dame, etc, because Louisville is still 6-5 in conference (same as Marquette, better then the rest) and has a higher RPI then the rest.

-- Utah St is on a roll in the WAC, and up to 48th in the RPI. While the Aggies perhaps are not considered by many as an at-large team, they're close to moving up to a 12th seed. They've won 9 in a row.

-- Due to losses by Wisconsin and MSU, West Virginia moves up to a 3 seed despite being idle since the latest update. WVU is 5th in the RPI, but has a tough pair of road games coming up against Pitt and Providence.
