CBS Coverage Maps: See What Games You Get to Watch

March 19th, 2008

One of the fun but also sometimes frustrating aspects of the NCAA Tournament is that CBS televises multiple games at once. This can lead to some exciting in-game looks at close exciting games, but it also means you might be missing the game you really want to see. CBS released their coverage maps of Thursday's opening round action, and I've linked to the maps for each time-slot below.

Coverage Maps: Friday

Here's what important regions/cities will be seeing:

New York/Tri-State Area

12:30 - Temple/MSU

2:30 - ORU/Pitt

7:00 - Belmont/Duke

9:30 - GMU/ND

- The unfortunate decision here is that NYC will be subjected to the boring Duke blowout instead of the exciting USC/KSU matchup featuring two of the country's best players. Also, most of the country outside of Pennsylvania/NY/NJ will be seeing the more evenly matched Kentucky/Marquette game instead of ORU/Pitt.

Los Angeles/Southern California

12:30 - Portland State/Kansas

2:30 - KY/Marquette

7:00 - KState/USC

9:30 - MVSU/UCLA

- No major complaints here. The Kansas game will be switched to more competitive game at some point anyways. Also note that Stanford/Cornell (stuck in the odd 4:40 time slot) will only be showed in NoCal but not down south.

Chicago

12:30 - Temple/MSU

2:30 - Baylor/Purdue

7:00 - KState/USC

9:30 - GMU/ND

- Interesting choice here is the final game where ND is being shown in the Chicago region instead of Wisconsin/Fullerton. This will probably leave some disappointed Big Ten/Badger fans in the region. Similarly Purdue gets the choice over Marquette

Boston

12:30 - Temple/MSU

2:30 - KY/Marquette

7:00 - Belmont/Duke

9:30 - GMU/ND

- Not a bad slate, but again the lack of USC/KState is disappointing.. though Boston is theoretically ACC country in some sense.

Smallest Coverage

Washington State/Winthrop (5%) - Only the northwest and scattered regions of South Carolina will see this game.

Wisconsin/Fullerton (6%) - Even people in Fullerton won't get this game because UCLA is on instead.

Kent State/UNLV (9%)
