So Ohio State beats Notre

So Ohio State beats Notre Dame (WITH Luke Harangody putting up 25 points and 16 rebounds) on a NEUTRAL court, has the #2 defense in the country according to Ken Pomeroy's rankings, is undefeated and gets ranked #27 while ND gets ranked #11??? You claim that these rankings are without bias, but it sounds like there's a lot of bias there ... I guess someone doesn't want to admit a mistake in ranking OSU #38 to start the season and also doesn't want to admit the Irish were overrated. You just need to accept the fact that Ohio State is a lot more talented than the "at best 8 or 9 seed" you said they'd be at the start of the season. This is getting ridiculous.

OSU

I think OSU will come in 23-24 in the polls tomorrow. Mainly not too many of the Top 25 teams had bad weeks, and the polls are slow to change, but I think Buckeyes should be 18-20ish now ahead of Purdue & MSU

Not an Ohio State fan, but I

Not an Ohio State fan, but I echo the sentiments of Christopher. I would also argue that Davidson and Michigan are a little low. But there is no rational justification of Ohio State's #27 ranking after two quality wins away from home to keep them unbeaten. I love the fact that you include 55 teams, but the credibility of your rankings took a major hit this week.

OSU

In response to the OSU posts above.. a couple thoughts. As the one person said they think OSU will be 23-24th, I think OSU will end up 21-23rd. Florida should drop out and maybe Miami, and that's it, not leaving much room for OSU to jump up (I also think they'll pass Marquette. Its harder to tell what the voters will do with MSU/UCLA losses). I think everyone pretty much agrees Miami would have beaten OSU but for the odd McClinton ejection, which rightly or wrongly, the voters might take into account. Who knows, maybe my my eyeball test is letting me down here and OSU really is legitimately that good, I guess time will tell.

Anti Big Ten!

Shawn's notoriously Anti-Big Ten. He hated on Purdue earlier, now OSU, even Michigan has wins over UCLA and Duke. How are they not Top 25? Forget OSU. And how bout 7-2 Penn State

SD Matt's picture

eh.. I don't know..

Coming from an Ohio State fan.. The Big Ten hasn't been doing too hot lately and there are some young teams that need to prove themselves a little more before we can consider them top 10 teams. I don't have a problem with the rankings, and how about your 7-2 Penn State?? I see one quality win under their belt, Georgia Tech. Most of the teams ahead of them have 0, 1 and a handful have 2 losses too, so why would they be able to jump them?? I think the only argument you have is for, i hate to say it, Michigan. However, they played Duke at home for the win, and if you recall, Duke beat u of m earlier in the year on a neutral court. Don't get me wrong, I want the Big Ten to be represented just as much as you, but I still think the teams have a long way to go..

A&M

I think everyone really underlooked A&M this year, because they exaggerated last year's losses.. Jordan did nothing anyways. And it just allowed guys like Davis & Elonu to step up.

AJ's picture

Miami deserved to lose that

Miami deserved to lose that game because of McClinton's stupidity and the fact no one stepped up in his absence. And give Ohio State credit. They took advantage of the situation and came back to win on the road. That game aside, how do you justify a two-loss Notre Dame team sitting 16 spots ahead of an unbeaten OSU team they just lost to on a neutral court? Until the Buckeyes lose, they should be ahead of ND.

Top 25

OSU ended up 21st in the Polls.. is that more what you had in mind AJ or is that too low?

Too low. It's obvious that

Too low. It's obvious that too much emphasis is put on potential and not enough on results. Unbeaten teams like LSU, Illinois State, Stanford and BYU haven't defeated anyone of note, so it's understandable that they wouldn't be ranked. Ohio State has two wins over ranked teams, both away from home. Even if you discount the Miami result due to the absence of McClinton, the Notre Dame win on a neutral floor should put them ahead of the Irish. Not to mention two loss teams like Michigan State, UCLA, Purdue and a few one loss teams like Louisville. Personally, I think the polls stink. That's why I like seeing some of the other rankings out there, like yours. No one else offers a Top 50 ranking, so I think it's great that you do it. And I really enjoy your site. I'd just like to see the ranking reflect results instead of potential.

Shawn Siegel's picture

I hear ya. Its a fine line

I hear ya. Its a fine line balancing results and potential. If it was pure results, then WKU would be Top 20 now and Louisville wouldn't be on the Top 50, but that wouldn't be a helpful ranking..

LOL to the aggie homer who

LOL to the aggie homer who thinks they are good. You lost to Tulsa. TULSA! Arizona is not so great this year, Budinger was an idiot for staying.

Where's San Diego?

Where's San Diego? American? Heck, even Siena. These were all tournament teams last year and aren't getting any respect from the media. And here's a prediction ... you watch West Virginia tonight ... they will shutdown Curry in the Garden. Mountaineers may be the best team in the Big East - time will tell, but I think I'm right on that one.
