Betting odds are a great guide to college basketball entertainment. Unlike fans, who often ride the wave of media predictions, betting lines tend to be a bit more focused and can give you an objective picture of how teams matchup (though lines too can get caught up in the wave of human emotion).

I'll discuss my daily predictions after the lines.. these are posted solely for fun, as I do not bet on games myself, nor do I suggest anybody else does either (it's not easy). If you agree or disagree with my picks, have thoughts on the day's lines, or have upsets or picks to announce, post them below.

PREDICTIONS

I'm 7-3 so far on the season, after calling DePaul & Montana yesterday. Today, we have a bit more action in store, though as usual I limit my predictions to the day's "top" games.

I like TEXAS to beat Pittsburgh by 7.5+. Pitt knocked off Wichita State yesterday, which is their most impressive win of the season. They're young guards played well, but Texas is a substantial step up. I believe Jamie Dixon has never lost a game in November, but that streak should end tonight.

VIRGINIA seems like an easy pick against Stanford, so obvious in fact, that perhaps there is an injury I'm missing? I have little respect for the Cardinal, who come in with a 2-2 record. This game is in Cancun.

Lastly, I like CINCINNATI getting 3.5 against Maryland later tonight in Maui. The Bearcats looked great at moments against Vandy, and extremely sloppy at other times. This pick could blow up in my face depending on whether Yancy Gates brings it 100% and stays out of foul trouble.

What do you think?

On my second day...

After going 3 and 0 on the first night here are my picks today:

Syracuse giving 13.5 points to Cornell (If you are a real Top 10 team the margin should be in the 20's)

Kentucky giving 12.5 points to Cleveland State (ClevelandWho? What? How? C'mon if Calipari is going to make a name for himself and the program he best make a statement in games like these)

And I will stop with just two because the other two pics are like Shawn has and so I am not going to re-pick!

AEM

(3-0 on the season)

“If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot.” - Dean Smith

"The name on the front of your jersey is a lot more important than the name on the back." -Roy Williams

today's plays

Princeton, Tulsa, Virginia, Buffalo, Boise. Almost pulled the trigger on Northridge, but haven't yet. Still considering the Matadors as dogs, though.

Miller vs. McClain is a coaching mismatch in Zona-Colorado, by the way. Buffs win this only if 'Cats are weary off having to play the late game and having to wheel right back.
