Betting odds are a great guide to college basketball entertainment. Unlike fans, who often ride the wave of media predictions, betting lines tend to be a bit more focused and can give you an objective picture of how teams matchup (though lines too can get caught up in the wave of human emotion).

I'll discuss my daily predictions after the lines.. these are posted solely for fun, as I do not bet on games myself, nor do I suggest anybody else does either (it's not easy). If you agree or disagree with my picks, have thoughts on the day's lines, or have upsets or picks to announce, post them below.

PREDICTIONS

- I head into today's action 12-4 with my picks after EMU crushed Canisius at home yesterday.

- I like NORTH CAROLINA ST as home underdogs favorites against Northwestern. Northwestern has already knocked off Iowa St and Notre Dame, and played Butler very close, so this is a dangerous team. But it might be too much for them playing a true road game across the country, against a team that won't mind their sluggish style of play.

- I like PROVIDENCE on the road at Northeastern as well. Northeastern is 2-0 at home with hard-fought close wins over Utah St and Wright State, both solid teams. Providence isn't better then those squads, but the familiarity with the locale (in Boston), avenging a loss to N'Eastern last year, coming off a tough loss to BC and N'Eastern's lack of true home court dominance add up to a PC win.

Who do you like? Discuss your picks below.

Providence

Like Providence tonight. Curry played poorly against them last season and will play much better this year. He played well against BC. Friars will win this game.

jacksonville state -6

Chattanooga suffered a lot of losses from a year ago as the top four scorers have departed. They have won three games, but they were certainly very soft, confidence-building type games, but the reality is that this team is going to struggle early as they regain identity and experience. Jacksonville State showed signs of getting it together, dropping a close one vs. Georgia by just three.

Wake Forest +11 Wake has the

Wake Forest +11

Wake has the athletic ability to give Purdue struggles. I look for them to rebound from there pathetic shooting performance against W&M and put forth a strong showing. Purdue wins, but it won't be by double figures.

Purdue 79
Wake 72

Maryland -4.5

I am not a big fan of Maryland this year but they are playing the Hoosiers at the right time of the year. IU has much more talent on their team this year than last but still are extremely young and inexperienced. I feel the Hoosiers are in over their heads in this game. If this game was later in the season than I would give IU a much better chance of winning. I just don't see them being able to play relaxed and capable of how they can play. Too many turnovers and bad shots will cost IU in this game and will result in a loss.

Maryland 75
IU 66

2 other games that weren't listed that I like are:

Temple -4.5 (72-59 Temple)
LSU -12.5 (83-61 LSU)

dont like temple away. seems too risky to me. agree maryland may very well pull away by a wide margin. people are a little too down on maryland, but their losses in maui were against were very solid teams.
