Freshman 10 Archive

 

CHN released its official Preseason Mid-Major All-America team yesterday.  As I've been doing for all the awards, here are my personal views on our selections. All CHN awards are voted on by staff writers.

 

CollegeHoops.net's Preseason All-Freshman Team is led by a pair of unanimous selections: UCLA's Jrue Holiday and Ohio State's BJ Mullens. Holiday, a West Coast point guard and Mullens, a Mid-West big man come from the opposite ends of the college basketball spectrum.

 

Following my  2009 Field of 65 & Projected All-Americans, here is an early look at the 2008-09 All-Freshman Team.

This here is the last regular edition of the Freshman 10, with end-of-year awards and tournament editions all that’s left to follow. Generally this would be viewed as some kind of final evaluation on these players and their first full season of work, but given the startling incoherence this season has provided, I still think my judgments on most of these guys are largely incomplete. Earlier in the year we had to create things to talk about in order to justify paying attention to hoops over football and other stuff. I should start this off by saying I am a New York Giants fan. As a result, the last few days have been pretty incredible. The Super Bowl win knocked Syracuse’s 2003 NCAA title off the top of the best sports moments of my life. For any fan, it’s fun to see upsets like that but you can’t really anticipate what it feels like when your team is on the good end of the upset (and I imagine the same is true of the opposite).
