USAFA, Colo. -- Jeff Reynolds, an assistant coach for the Air Force Academy men’s basketball team the past two years, has been named head coach of the Falcons, athletic director Dr. Hans Mueh announced Tuesday morning.
Reynolds, the seventh head coach in program history and the fourth in the last five years, signed a five-year contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. He succeeds Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned on April 3 to become head coach at the University of Colorado.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s basketball program has added two assistant coaches, Jeremy Cox and Glynn Cyprien, head coach Billy Gillispie announced Monday.
“Both Jeremy and Glenn are great people and great coaches,” said Gillispie. “They are outstanding at developing relationships, with both current players and prospective students.”
Billy Gillispie must feel like he’s dreaming.
Just five years ago, he was stumbling through his first season as head coach at UTEP, on his way to a 6-24 record. Now, he’s preparing to sit in the same seat once occupied by Adolph Rupp, and lead a program that has “suffered” through back-to-back 22-win seasons. And he couldn’t be more excited.
“Was I the second choice?” Gillispie asked at his introductory news conference on April 6, in reference to UK’s public courtship of Billy Donovan. “If I was anywhere before seven and eight, I’d be happy.”
This morning, Iona College announced that Louisville assistant Kevin Willard will be the new basketball coach. Go to www.iona.edu/gaels for more details as the day progresses.
As a player, Billy Donovan will always be remembered as the pudgy point guard who willed his Providence team to the Final Four.
As a coach in 2000, Donovan earned the right to be remembered for going one step further than he did as a player.
And now, he will be remembered as being one of the greatest college coaches of all-time.
Donovan now has more rings than Lute Olson, Jim Boeheim, Tom Izzo, and even his mentor, Rick Pitino.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Dana Altman, the all-time winningest coach in Creighton basketball history, has accepted the head men¹s basketball coaching job at the University of Arkansas. Altman was introduced at a 5 pm press conference in Fayetteville, Ark., today at Bud Walton Arena.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Longtime Creighton men's basketball assistant coach Kevin McKenna has been hired as the head men's basketball coach at Indiana State University. McKenna, who is in the CU Athletics Hall of Fame for his play from 1977-81, returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach from 1994-2001 and then again from 2005-07.
McKenna replaces Royce Waltman, who did not have his contract renewed after this month¹s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
In a joint written statement released today, Iona College and former head basketball coach Jeff Ruland have come to a mutual agreement on the terms of a contract settlement for the last two years of his contract. In his nine years in New Rochelle, Ruland led his alma mater to three MAAC titles and three NCAA Tournaments.
"On behalf of the University of Kentucky, I’d like to express sincere appreciation to Tubby Smith, his family and his staff. Tubby has always put a priority on the growth of the student-athlete while representing the Commonwealth with class, and we thank him for that. We wish him the very best at the University of Minnesota. They are getting a solid coach and a great person.
