Default Duquesne at Temple 2/11

DUQUESNE HEADS TO PHILLY: Duquesne (3-18, 1-9), coming off a 79-69 loss at Rhode Island on Wednesday, completes a two-game road trip at Temple (12-9, 5-5) on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m. (KQV-AM 1410/redzonemedia.com). DU, which is 1-8 on the road, is looking for its first win at Temple since 1995. Temple, picked to finish third in a preseason poll of Atlantic 10 coaches and media, is coming off a 66-59 loss at Charlotte on Wednesday. The Owls are 8-1 at home this season with the lone loss coming to nationally ranked George Washington.

Dukes AND OWLS: Temple leads the overall series 34-12, including a 17-5 advantage in games played at Philadelphia ... Duquesne’s last win at Temple was on Jan. 30, 1995 by a 62-55 score (a span of five games) ... ... Temple has won the last three Liacouras Center meetings by an average of +33.0 ppg. (81-37 in 2000, 85-48 in 2002 and 83-65 in 2004 for an average score of 83.0-50.0) ... Duquesne snapped an eight-game series losing streak with a 61-54 win over the Owls in Pittsburgh on Jan. 8, 2003 ... Temple has won the last two meetings ... last year, Mardy Collins scored 29 points to lead the Owls to a 68-62 win at the Palumbo Center ... in the last Liacouras Center meeting, David Hawkins and Collins scored 27 and 26 points respectively as Temple hit a then season-high 12 3-pointers in defeating Duquesne 83-65 ... DU head coach Danny Nee is 1-3 against Temple Hall of Fame coach John Chaney.

DUQUESNE LATELY: Senior guard Bryant McAllister has tied school records in each of his last two outings ... the 6-3 Pittsburgh native posted his first career double-double with 16 points and a school record-tying 12 assists vs. Fordham last Saturday and followed that by tying the 17-year-old school mark for 3-pointers in a game with eight (in 13 attempts) at Rhode Island on Wednesday ... McAllister’s 36 points vs. the Rams were the most by a DU player since current Toronto Raptors guard Mike James scored 36 at Xavier in 1996 ... McAllister leads the A-10 in scoring (19.4 ppg.) and is second in assists per game at 4.85 ... he enters the Temple game 11th on Duquesne’s all-time leading scorer’s list with 1,420 points ... he needs 40 to pass Rick Suder and move into the No. 10 spot ... Duquesne, which has been dressing nine players for the Atlantic 10 season, was down to eight at Rhode Island with starting forward DeVario Hudson sidelined with the flu ... Hudson, who averaged 13.7 ppg. (17-of- 29, 58.6%) in the three games prior to URI, is expected to play against Temple ... senior Keith Gayden has come off the bench to play the last three games with his sprained his left (shooting) wrist heavily taped ... Gayden injured the wrist when he tripped while running up a flight of stairs in the Student Union on Feb. 1.

RHODE ISLAND LEFTOVERS: Leftovers from Wednesday’s 79-69 loss at Rhode Island ... Bryant McAllister’s 36 points eclipsed his previous career-high of 30 set last year vs. UMBC and tied earlier this season vs. Troy ... the point total was the highest by a Duquesne player since current Toronto Raptors point guard Mike James scored 36 at Xavier on Feb. 24, 1996 ... McAllister was also the first Duke to score 30 on the road since James netted 31 at Temple on Jan. 21, 1998 ... McAllister, who scored 18 in each half, finished the game 12-of-19 from the field (8-of-13 from the 3-point arc) with six rebounds and three assists in 39 minutes ... McAllister, who now has 1,420 career points, passed Courtney Wallace and James to take over the No. 11 spot on DU’s all-time leading scorers’ list ... McAllister’s eight 3-pointers tied the school record set by Tony Petrarca at Pitt on Dec. 18, 1989 ... McAllister’s previous career best for 3-pointers in a game was five which he had accomplished twice ... Duquesne tied its season high of 10 3-pointers made for the second time in three games ... the Dukes were without leading rebounder DeVario Hudson, who was in street clothes with the flu ... Duquesne’s 24 rebounds were a season low ... centers Sean McKeon and Keith Gayden went without a rebound in 40 combined minutes ... Duquesne shot 54.2 percent in the second half and 47.4 percent for the game ... freshman guard Aaron Jackson had eight points, six assists and three steals for the Dukes.

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS: Duquesne, which topped the 70-point mark three times in its first 16 games, has scored 70 or more in three of its last five games. Over that four-game span, the Dukes are averaging 76.0 points and shooting 47.7 percent from the field. Unfortunately, DU’s opponents are averaging 84.0 ppg. and shooting 50.3 percent from the field over that same span. Prior to the current streak, the Dukes were averaging 63.6 ppg.

DUQUESNE QUICK NOTES: Duquesne has used 10 different starting lineups in 21 games ... the Dukes were forced to play musical lineups through the month of December ... senior guard Bryant McAllister missed the opener vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff while serving a one-game suspension for an off-court incident over the summer ... sophomore swingman Chauncey Duke missed the second game (at Oakland) to return to Missouri for his grandmother’s funeral and junior pivotman Kieron Achara missed the third game of the year, at Akron, with foot and shoulder injuries ... Achara - who played 20 minutes vs. Robert Morris in game #4 on Dec. 13 - had surgery on his shoulder Dec. 15 and is out for the remainder of the season ... six-seven forward Ryan Lambert, a first-year sophomore transfer from Western Kentucky, was released from the team on Dec. 20 ... he played in each of the first seven games of the season with three starts (6.5 ppg., 3.5 rpg. in 23.0 min./g.) ... it was announced on Jan. 10 that senior guard Jack Higgins, who saw action in the first eight games of the season with six starts (9.3 ppg., 16 3-pointers), would not be returning to the team for the second semester in order to concentrate on academics ... DU’s entire preseason roster was intact for just one game this season (a 73-58 win over Robert Morris on Dec. 3) ... the evolving roster led to starts for 10 different players ... Sean McKeon was the latest to get a start when he filled in for the injured Keith Gayden vs. La Salle and at Rhode Island ... McKeon’s start leaves Ronnie Thomas and Adam Souply as the only roster members - current or former - who have not been on the floor for an opening tap this season ... the Duquesne Holiday Tournament (Dec. 30-31) marked the first time that the Dukes started the same lineup for more than two consecutive games ... the unit of Duke, Hudson, Gayden, McAllister and Jackson has started a team-high 10 times ... Bryant McAllister, who has led the Dukes in scoring in 16 of 21 games, has set school records in each of his last two outings ... he tied the school mark (shared with three others) with 12 assists vs. Fordham on Feb. 4 and followed that by tying the 17-year-old record for 3-pointers in a game with eight (in 13 attempts) at Rhode Island on Feb. 8 ... McAllister’s 36 points vs. the Rams were the most by a Duquesne player since current Toronto Raptors guard Mike James netted 36 at Xavier in 1996 ... McAllister followed his first single-digit scoring game of the season (a season-low eight at Fordham) with a game-high 19 at Dayton ... he hit 4-of-8 3-point attempts in adding 23 vs. GW, scored 25 more at St. Bonaventure and added 20 vs. La Salle on Feb. 4 ... his career-long streak of three straight 20-point games was snapped vs. Fordham ... instead of scoring 20, McAllister handed out a school record-tying 12 assists and added 16 points vs. the Rams ... he followed the Fordham game with the eight “3’s” and 36 points at URI ... McAllister hasn’t had back-to-back single-digit scoring games since the second and third games of his sophomore season when he was playing through an ankle injury (nine points vs. Siena and zero vs. Pitt) ... the Pittsburgh native tied his then-career scoring high with 30 points vs. Troy in the first round of the Duquesne Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30 ... McAllister has posted nine assists twice this season (vs. The Citadel and Appalachian State) in addition to his school record-tying 12 assists vs. Fordham ... he has had at least five assists in 12 of 20 games ... going into this season, he had five or more assists in a game 10 times in 89 career outings ... he has not gone more than two consecutive games without at least five assists this season ...
