We bitch about ESPN for a lot of reasons on here and rightfully so, but give them credit for putting together pretty solid fields for these early season tournaments of theirs. Last year, the one in Orlando with Arkansas, Southern Illinois, and Virginia Tech was a good one, and this year they've got another competitive group with George Mason, Kansas State, and NC State.

I hadn't heard about this Puerto Rico Tip-Off, but the field looks good. Of course Arkansas is on a different level than Marist, but it's better than watching UCLA/Washington pound on Praire View A&M/NJIT in the other early season tournaments. And it's cool how even the lower end of the field, Temple and CofC, are programs that have at least a little amount of tradition.

That's a pretty good field. Hopefully ESPN can keep this up with the Orlando and PR tourneys in the future.

That settles it then, cancel the tournament, call FedEx and ship the trophy to Arkansas. No need to play the games with detailed analysis like that.

I'd put Temple ahead of Marist in those rankings, they couldn't win the MAAC tourney last year with the best point guard in the country, I think they'll take a big step back this year. Temple meanwhile has gotten a year to adjust to Fran Dunphy and returns the top 2 scorers in the A-10 in Christmas and Tyndale. We have both Marist and Temple on our schedule and suffice to say I'm more worried about Temple.

Default Temple vs Marist

Yeah after i thought about it i would actually switch Miami and Temple leaving Marist where it is and yes Marist didnt win the MAAC but the best teams don't always win thier conference tournaments (we did win the MAAC) - and they had a very nice win at Oklahoma St. also Marist restocked and restocked quick - they unlike last year are going to sneak up on quite a few teams.

I like the Friars to take this one. The addition of Jeff Xavier and Randall Hanke along with their returning players makes them a good bet for the NCAAs too.

Just got word that VCU will face Houston in the first round, and then either Miami or Marist in the second round.
