Saturday Recap: Nova & UCONN Advance

March 29th, 2009
The Big East, in the final months of commissioner Mike Tranghese’s tenure, went into Saturday guaranteed at least one spot in the Final Four with Pittsburgh and Villanova meeting in Boston. But how those two fought for the East Regional title is something that will be remembered for a long time to come, with the Wildcats winning on a Scottie Reynolds shot with 0.5 seconds remaining. A Levance Fields heave from about seventy feet was online but long, sealing the 78-76 win and the Wildcats’ first Final Four since 1985.

Sweet Sixteen Thursday Review: Tigers Roll, Duke Chokes

March 27th, 2009
2009 Final FourFive Big East teams made their way into the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, and so far five remain. A trio of teams from the nation’s best conference won tonight, guaranteeing the conference of at least one Final Four team as a retirement present for commissioner Mike Tranghese. NCAA Tournament: Opening Weekend Lessons

March 24th, 2009
2009 Final FourThe opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament - also known as the greatest four days in sports - provided more than a few lessons. Among them: 1) If your company requires to take furlough days, there's no better time than the first two days of the tournament, and 2) It's amazing how many beers you can fit into a single day when there is basketball on TV all day long. Also, for future reference, be sure to check if the bar has a happy hour, or you may be decidedly unhappy when the check comes.

Ahh...but there were lessons learned on the court as well.

March 21st, 2009
DeJuan Blair - Pittsburgh

It took until the final hours of Friday night before March Madness started living up to its moniker. #12 Wisconsin came back late to upend #5 Florida St in overtime, and #13 Cleveland State added further misery to the ACC by knocking off Wake Forest. The Vikings pretty much owned Wake Forest from the opening tip, and while Cedric Jackson doesn't make CHN's All-First Round team, he deserves to be mentioned.
