College: Iowa State
Class: Sophomore
Position: PF
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 230lbs
Accolades: First Team All-Big 12 (09), Honorable Mention All-American - AP (09), Honorable Mention All-American - CHN (09).
Scouting Report: A quickly improving skilled forward.
Strengths: Decent athlete. Good length. Nice hook shot. Finishes strong down low. Very good face-up shooter for a big man. Can put the ball on the floor and score. Nice back-to-the-basket moves. Can create and knock down shots from anywhere on the floor. Big time scorer - capable of huge offensive outbursts. Good turnaround jumper. Showed big improvements from his freshman to sophomore seasons. Has range on his jumper out past the three-point line. Good at drawing fouls. Good rebounder.
Weaknesses: Inexperienced - has only been playing organized basketball for a few years. Really needs to add weight/strength. 21-years-old already - older than other sophomores. Not an explosive athlete. Will have trouble guarding NBA power forwards and isn’t quick enough to guard small forwards. Needs to become more consistent knocking down three-pointers. Doesn’t contribute much on the defensive end.
Projected 2010 Draft Range: Top 15 to early second round pick.
Consensus: Despite having a breakout sophomore season, Craig Brackins made a good decision to return to college for his junior year. With his draft stock all over the board, he needs to strengthen his body and game and make a bigger impression on the NBA scouts.
