2009 NBA DRAFT NBA Mock Draft - Top 100 Prospects - NBA Team Needs/Capsules - 2010 Draft

DeMarcus Cousins

College: Kentucky

Class: Freshman

Position: PF

Height: 6’9”

Weight: 250lbs

Accolades: First Team Parade All-American - high school (09), McDonald’s All-American - high school (09).

Scouting Report: A big man with good skills.

Strengths: Big and strong. Huge wingspan. Overpowers defenders in the post. Can dribble the ball well for a big man. Good passer. Great shot blocker. Has range on his jumper.

Weaknesses: Not super-athletic or an explosive leaper. Needs to improve his conditioning. Post moves are still raw. Anger management issues.

Projected 2010 Draft Range: Mid first round pick.

Consensus: Cousins is definitely a high-level NBA prospect due to his size and skills. How he does in Coach Calipari’s system at Kentucky will determine if he is a lottery pick or a late first rounder.

You're one of the few people

You're one of the few people who aren't declaring Cousins the next big thing... and I wholeheartedly agree. I think he's going to be the black sheep of coach Cal's mega-class coming in.

I agree that Cousins won't

I agree that Cousins won't be the NBA superstar that some think he will be, at least not right away, because of his lack of athleticism and his temper. But I do think he could end up being a very good 2 year college player that eventually develops into an NBA starter.

Cousins - next great pro

Wow, I guess you two were wrong, he's better per minute than anybody in the country, the one thing to worry about now is his anger and tendency to get frustrated when defenders get physical with him and he doesn't get calls. Other than that, he's a beast, great foot work, yes, not the greatest athlete, but when you're a near 7 footer at 6'11" with a massive wingspan you don't generally have to be. Star in the making, maybe another Pat Ewing if he mentally stays in check.

Cousins

Cousins will go number 1 or number 2. Believe me I know college basketball.

However your talking about

However your talking about pro basketball. That being said it, Cousins going 1 or 2 wouldn't surprise me.
