Eric Maynor - VCU

Eric Maynor

College: VCU

Class: Senior

Position: PG

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 175;bs

Accolades: CAA Player of the Year (08), First Team All-CAA (08), CAA All-Tournament Team (08), Second Team High-Major All-American - CHN (08), First Team All-CAA (07), CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player (07).

Scouting Report: The best “true” point guard in the draft.

Strengths: Great passer with terrific court vision. Throws creative passes and a great alley-oop passer. Great at pushing the pace. Can get into the paint and finish with layups and runners/floaters. Clutch performer - not afraid to take the big shot. Good defender. Very quick player. Experienced player. Has range on his jumper out past the three-point line. Can be an explosive scorer.

Weaknesses: Didn’t play in a major conference. Needs to add size/strength for the rigours of the NBA. Not an athletic freak like some other prospects. Will be 22-years-old before the draft so he probably doesn’t possess as much “upside” as some other prospects.

Projected 2009 Draft Range: Mid to late first round pick.

Consensus: Eric Maynor might be the safest bet for a team looking to pick up a point guard in this year’s draft. While he might not have as high a ceiling as some other guys, he definitely has a very good chance to enjoy a long career as a NBA point guard.

What team do you think is

What team do you think is the most likely to pick up eric maynor and see him get decent minutes next year

I'd say it's unlikely he

I'd say it's unlikely he goes in the lottery unless you have a team (Milwaukee jumps to mind) that decides they're going for readiness over pure talent. Maynor isn't the most talented player coming out at his position, but he is very seasoned and very coachable.

Hard to say

It's hard to say at this point since the draft order hasn't been finalized yet.
