Jodie Meeks
![]()
College: Kentucky
Class: Junior
Position: SG
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 208lbs
Accolades: None
Scouting Report: A breakout performer his junior season.
Strengths: Fantastic shooter. Has deep range on his jumper. Can knock down shots with a defender in his face. Strong build. Good athlete. Explosive scorer. Great free throw shooter. Quick release on his jumper. Good experience playing three years in the SEC. Solid passer. Gets steals by jumping the passing lane. Good at drawing fouls.
Weaknesses: Will be short for an NBA wing player. Needs to work on his defense - has trouble staying in front of his man. Gambles too much on defense. Needs to improve his ball-handling skills. Other than scoring doesn’t bring too much else to the table. Turns the ball over too much. Can be too reliant on the three-pointer - about half of his shots are from out beyond the arc. Was basically nothing more than an average player until his junior year.
Projected 2009 Draft Range: Early second round pick to undrafted.
Consensus: Jodie Meeks has definitely had an outstanding junior season in Lexington. However, he doesn’t project to be more than a role player at best in the NBA. He could fill the role of a long-range bomber off a bench in the NBA, but probably he’ll have to earn his keep in the minor leagues or Europe.

Only 2 years in the NBA? Seriously? How is 6’4 207 small for a NBA shooting guard? Sure, he would have a tough time matching up with 6’7 guys like Kobe, Lebron and Granger. But so does everyone else in the league. Meek’s predecessor at UK was Kelenna Azubuike. Kelenna found a place in the league and is having a good NBA career. They are essentially the same size but Meeks is a far superior shooter and generally more skilled.

Kelenna Azubuike and Jodie Meeks are the same size? Not way dude.
Azubuike is 6-5 220, Meeks is 6-4 207 like you said. Azubuike is much more athletic and shoots over 40% from 3 pt land in the NBA. Meeks shined only because of his poor team at UK, Azubuike is simply the man!

This clown wont even get drafted. Just cause he had a few big games, makes people think he has more talent than he actually does. Gonna be funny to see all the uk crybabies whining on draft day. E5>grody meeks.

You dumbass.. Meeks must have dropped a few points on your home team..LMFAO.. Fuckin loser! You actually think UK fans want to see Meeks go to the NBA? You idiot. (If we cry it will be because he left you MORON!)If he stays we are final four bound with what we have coming in next year.. You are just another HATER! Keep on hating you ignorant fool!!!! GO CATS!!

Did you really just say "Grody Meeks"? What are you, 8 years old? HAHAHAHA What a tool.

I saw Jodie Meeks play numerous times and I was always impressed! He didn't get much playing time his freshman year, and was injured his entire sophmore year. This past season was his first chance to really show us what he is capable of doing. He has potential to be one of the best!

I am an avid UK fan and have seen as much of his play as I can in AK. In his Freshman year he impressed me as a player who had great potential. In his sophomore year, as you noted, he was out with an injury all year; which hurt both him and UK.In his junior year he showed some kind of guts with his talent.
My take on the situation is that were he to spend his last year in school, not only would he get a degree,he would make up for lost time with the injury, polish his
skills, go higher in the draft, last longer and better in the pros and make more money than he will by going early.
The thing he and every other player who ponders going early
is that the rules are different and, they are not playing against the best, they are playing against the best of the best. Also, what if their pro career should be cut short by injury or illness they can still earn a living doing something other pushing a broom. Thus, the issue becomes not only one of immediate bucks but, also of long term security.

Jody Meeks will return to kentucky just to make himself better for next years draft. He will middle 1st round very easy then. For those say Jody Meeks will not be a good NBA player you are smoking your breakfast. Everyone thaught Rex Chapman would not be a good NBA player he turned to be a great player for a number of teams. So you all need to sit back and watch the wildcats win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP this year which be no.8. And for guys thinking about where John Wall will go he will be in KENTUCKY BLUE wait and see everyone will regret not signing him. KENTUCKY BASKETBALL is back and here to stay Billy Gillespe ruined our program in just 2 years but John Calapari is going to put us back on top his 1st year and keep them for long time come so ready to envy our past and fear our future the John Calapari era is here to stay.

It's always interesting to see the lack of articulate commentary. Keep to the game - the sport - the facts. To get into name-calling and cursing negates anything of worth you may have to share. I love my Cats, and am really hoping Jodie stays for one more year. Do I think he needs it to improve his game? Yes, but I thought the same about Kelenna and am thrilled to see him having a solid career. We never know what is going on behind the scenes, do we? The jury is totally out on how well Calipari will do. To make a declaration that we'll win the title this year is, um, to put it lightly, premature. On a final note, the name is Jodie. J-O-D-I-E, not Jody.

Thanks for the articulate commentary.

The dude is not a consistant shooter to play in the nba. I bleed blue, but I also know reality. Rex Chapman was a sick shooter and you doosh bags that think they are similar are idiots.
Jodie is making a huge mistake, he's too small to play two spot in the league. Are you telling me he's better than Courtney Lee??? No sir. JJ Reddick and he cant get any pt.

if he dont get drafted he can come back too uk ......if this happens look the fuck out here comes the cats can u say championship...... hell even if he dont we got a shot with wall at point miller at shooting gaurd cussins at power forward patterson at small forward orton at center and bledsoe off the bench omg this year is gonna be awsome go catts

Wow... Have you not seen this Kid play... he is a athlete he is more then just a three point shooter, he can drive the lane, he can jump, he as good handles... he is a underated defender... I honestly think he will be a solid 6th man to a starter not an ALL star with MVP talnet but like the song about him says... "Wait until he peaks".. hes not at the top of his game just yet... and if i had to give him one weakness it would be his injury that kept him out his sophmore season and his freshman season... the little time he played he showed he was a outstanding scorer... i think that this is boguoues.

Two words: Ricky Davis

Number 41...........wow jodie!! I love ya but..........u should have stuck with what u said. "if I'm not a first round pick I will stay." Well 11 spots later and d league written all over u!! All I have to say is dumb. Who talked u into staying in the draft??? Cuz they should be shot!!! But good luck anyway!!! We will miss u!! And I hope I'm wrong!!!
Meeks
His 54 point game got him drafted. He is an explosive scorer and with this years weak draft class, he should go in the 2nd round somewhere. Agree, probably a 10 year international player, 2 years in the NBA, 1 year NBDL.
