April 7th, 2004 -
CollegeHoopsnet.com announced the nominees for the inaugural 2004 CHN
Spirit Awards. 56 different teams were nominated in the award's 16
categories, honoring the best of the complete college basketball experience.
College basketball is about more than just the game itself. The total
experience includes the arena, the crowd, the cheerleaders, the band and much
more. All of these come together to make college basketball the premier event
in NCAA athletics.
Recently crowned men's national champion UCONN was nominated in 6
categories, including the Ultimate College Basketball School. Duke led
all schools with 8 nominees, while Arizona picked up 7. NCAA runner up
Georgia Tech garnered 3 nominees including Favorite Team Mascot, and
Coolest Team of the Year. Louisville and Saint Joseph's led all
non-BCS schools with 4 nominees apiece.
The Big East paced all conferences with 7 different teams being
nominated for a Spirit Award, while 13 different conferences received multiple
nominations.
As a member of the web media, CHN has also added three categories for college
basketball related websites: Best Conference Website, Best Athletic Department
Website, and Best College Basketball Team Fansite
Fans can visit collegehoopsnet.com and vote in the Spirit Awards from now
