BRACKET REFRESHER: AIR FORCE

NCAA Tournament | All 65 Team Capsules

By Joel Welser

2006 NCAA Tournament Capsule: Air Force

Air Force Falcons (24-6)

Mountain West: 2nd(t), 12-4

RPI: 49 AP: na

Big Wins: Miami (57-53), San Diego St (65-62), at UNLV (52-50)

Bad Losses: at Wyoming (50-55), at New Mexico (59-62), vs. Wyoming (55-57)

Last NCAA Appearance: 2004, First Round

Top Players:

Antoine Hood, Sr, G, 14.8 ppg, 2.7 apg

Jacob Burtschi, Jr, F, 12.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg

Dan Nwaelele, Jr, G, 11.7 ppg, 2.2 apg

Matt McCraw, Jr, G, 10.8 ppg, 2.6 apg

The Falcons are tops in the nation in scoring defense, allowing under 54 points per game.  The lack of turnovers and the ability to dictate tempo is always a dangerous combination in March and that should have the Falcons ready for a win.  Antoine Hood is great scorer and Jacob Burtschi, Dan Nwaelele and Matt McCraw aren’t far behind.  Nwaelele and McCraw are stellar long range shooters and need to contained by the opposition.  The biggest advantage for Air Force is still their ability to dictate tempo.  If it’s a low scoring, grind it out game, the Falcons can win.

Likely Finish: First Round
