jwelser@collegehoops.net

2006 NCAA Tournament Capsule: Penn

Penn Quakers (20-7)

Ivy League: 1st, 12-1

RPI: 107  AP: na

Big Wins: Drexel (68-60), at Hawaii (58-55), La Salle (73-65)

Bad Losses: at Fordham (63-78), St. Joe’s (44-47), at Columbia (57-59)

Last NCAA Appearance: 2005, First Round

Top Players:

Ibrahim Jaaber, Jr, G

Mark Zoller, Jr, F

Eric Osmundson, Sr, G

Steve Danley, Jr, F

There isn’t a really bad loss on the schedule, but Penn doesn’t have the firepower to knock off a three or four seed.  It is tough to score on the Quakers, but going up against a superior athletic team will be difficult.  Ibrahim Jaaber is a great talent.  The 6-2 guard will hit some big three’s and change momentum with a steal and an easy layup, but he’ll need a lot of that for Penn to advance.  Mark Zoller and Steve Danley provide an undersized frontcourt that will have to out hustle and out smart the opposition for Penn not to lose the game on the glass.

Seed: 15

First Round: Texas

Joel's Likely Finish: First Round

CHN's Official Prediction: First Round
