Texas A&M - Corpus Christi
Perry Clark Named TAMU-CC Head Coach
May 2nd, 2007Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ended their search for a new coach on Tuesday, hiring former Miami (Fl.) and Tulane head coach Perry Clark to replace Ronnie Arrow. Arrow resigned after this past season to accept the head coaching position at South Alabama. "Perry Clark is a proven winner, on and off the basketball floor, and we are fortunate at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to have a man of his knowledge, experience and integrity leading our basketball program," athletic director Brian Teter said. Clark was 250-199 in 15 seasons with the Hurricanes and the Green Wave, reaching the NCAA Tournament four times. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Penn State and Georgia Tech. He has been working as a TV analyst for the past three seasons after being fired by Miami (Fl.).
South Alabama to Hire TAMU-CC's Ronnie Arrow
April 16th, 2007According to Andy Katz of ESPN.com, South Alabama will hire Texas A&M-Corpus Christi coach Ronnie Arrow to become their next head coach. Arrow will replace John Pelphrey, who was hired at Arkansas earlier this month. Arrow has coached at Corpus Christi since 1998, guiding them from a new Division-I program to the NCAA Tournament this past season. Interestingly, Arrow was already the head coach at South Alabama for seven seasons in the late 80s and early 90s, going 114-93 and reaching two NCAA Tournaments. The official announcement will be made on Tuesday.
Southland Conference Preview
November 3rd, 2006Southland gets the best of the deal
October 15th, 2006It has taken a couple of years for the fallout affects of Virginia Tech and Miami’s move from the ACC to reach the small time. But now that it finally has trickled down, conferences are starting to snatch up Independent teams like a starving kid at a donut shop.
UC-Davis is all set to officially move to the Big West, the Mid-Con has snatched up IPFW, North Dakota State and South Dakota State for the 2007-2008 season and Florida Gulf Coast is already getting looks before they are ever cleared to become a Division I institution. But the biggest winner of all? The Southland Conference. Full of mediocre teams, coaches and players, this conference reeled in a big fish when it landed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, perhaps the best DI Independent ever.
