Saturday Night Fever: Conference Tournament Update

March 15th, 2008

Some thoughts on an exciting Championship Week Saturday.. with an eye on the Big Dance:

- Tulsa learned in a big way this morning that Memphis owns the CUSA. Having won 10 of 13 games, and with 20 overall, the Golden Hurricanes are hoping they've done enough to impress the NIT selection committee. Regardless, the emergence of 7-0 big man Jerome Jordan is a great sign for the future.

Continuing with my conference player rankings, its on to the Mountain West. Senior Alvarado Parker is averaging 14 and 10 after two games, including a double-double in a blow out win over Rice.

Best Non-BCS Freshmen: Part One

July 6th, 2007

The NBA Draft is finally behind us, where half of this year’s top dozen picks were freshmen. 2008 looks to be no different, with the likes of one-and-doners Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo and Michael Beasley in all likelihood hearing their names called early.

But of course, not all incoming freshmen are already fielding calls from would-be agents. In fact, not every member of the stellar Class of 2007 is even going to the so-called “Big Six” power conferences. Many are going to be thrilling fans at the mid-major level as well.
