College: USC
Class: Freshman
Position: SF
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 215bs
Accolades: Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 (08), Pac-10 All-Freshman Team (08), Honorable Mention All-Freshman – CHN (08).
Scouting Report: A player with NBA athleticism and good size for a small forward.
Strengths: Capable of big scoring games. Very athletic. Explosive leaper – finishes hard at the rim on alley-oops and dunks over opponents. Good size for an NBA small forward. Shot for an extremely high percentage from the field – 57.5%. Very good rebounder. Good shot-blocker. Improved his defense his freshman year.
Weaknesses: Age – despite only playing one year in college, he will be turning 22-years-old at the starting of next NBA season. Needs to keep improving on the defensive end. Played mostly power forward in college – will need to transition to small forward in the NBA. Inexperienced – only one year of college. Still very raw. Needs to develop a consistent three-point shot (only took eight three-pointers his freshman year). Very inconsistent. Foul prone. Needs to improve his ball-handling. Turns the ball over three times as often as he gets an assist.
Projected 2008 Draft Range: Late first round to early second round pick.
Consensus: With no guarantee of getting selected in the first round, it would be a big mistake for Davon Jefferson to enter this year’s draft. Despite being older than other freshmen, his game is still raw and he needs work to become a solid NBA player.
