NBA Draft: Aaron Brooks
![]()
College: Oregon
Class: Senior
Stats: ESPN.com
Position: PG
Height: 6”0”
Weight: 160lbs
Accolades: Wooden Award All-American Team (07), Third Team AP All-American (07), Pac-10 All-Tournament Team (07), All-Pac-10 First Team (07), Third Team CHN All-American (07), All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention (05), Pac-10 All-Freshman Team (04), McDonald’s All-American – high school (03), Third Team Parade All-American (03), Washington (state) Player of the Year – high school – Gatorade & AP (03), USA Basketball Junior National Team (02).
Scouting Report: A diminutive, clutch, well-decorated guard.
Strengths: Very deep range on his jump shot. Clutch player – made key shots numerous times with the game on the line for the Ducks. Plays a lot bigger than he is – is a terrific rebounder for his size and position. Very experienced with four years of big time minutes played in the Pac-10. Very explosive scorer – cracked the 20-point barrier 11 times this season, including four times over 30. Very quick. Great free throw shooter.
Weaknesses: Lack of size – 6’0” is short for an NBA point guard, and it is debatable if Brooks really does crack the 6-foot barrier, plus he only weighs 160 lbs. Turnover prone – needs to improve his assists to turnover ratio. Can hit the three but doesn’t shoot it for a high enough percentage.
Projected 2007 Draft Range: Early to mid second round pick.
Consensus: Brooks was one of the best players in the nation his senior season with the Ducks. Whether that is enough for NBA teams to overlook his obvious size limitations is debatable. If Brooks can bulk up a bit and improve the consistency on his jump shot he may be able to carve out a career in the League.
