College: Vanderbilt
Class: Senior
Stats: ESPN.com
Position: SG/SF
Height: 6”7”
Weight: 220lbs
Accolades: SEC Player of the Year (07), First Team All-SEC (07), Fourth Team Parade All-American – high school (02), Gatorade Player of the Year – Tennessee – high school (02).
Scouting Report: Solid all-around player with plenty of intangibles.
Strengths: Solid in almost all aspects on the court. Great three-point shooter – averaged 39.7% from long range over his career. Can create shots for himself off of the dribble. Good pull up jumper. Aggressive driver. Good leader. Has quick hands. Good NBA body. Puts up good rebounding and assist numbers.
Weaknesses: A year older than other seniors due to a redshirt season after transferring from Virginia. Wasn’t really a standout player until his senior season. Can be quite turnover prone – needs to take better care of the ball if he is going to play the 2-spot in the NBA.
Projected 2007 Draft Range: Mid first round – early second round pick.
Consensus: Byars and the Commodores had a great showing in this year’s NCAA Tournamant. With his three-point touch and all-around skills, Byars should find himself a spot on a NBA roster in the fall.
